POP Server

POP server
 example: pop.abc.com pop3.abc.com

POP Account

User ID (In most case, at the left of @ on your e-mail address.)

POP Password Password for accessing to your mail server.

Confer the documents of your Internet Service Provider.

TIPS        What is POP / SMTP?

E-mail system works on 2 servers. Server for receiving e-mail is called POP server, for sending e-mail is called SMTP server.

If the POP server setting was wrong, you cannot receive e-mail. If the SMTP server setting is wrong, you cannot send e-mail. POP Account and POP password is necessary for identifying you. If either of them was wrong, you can neither send nor receive e-mail. Even only one character is wrong in the Password, Magellan cannot access to your mail server. Be careful not to enter wrong password if both uppercase and lowercase is used.

10-3. Options

Use APOP

If your mail server is APOP, check this.
The e-mail is not deleted even after you have received. It is recommended that this is not checked.

 Leave mails in server

If you check this, you can receive same e-mail again. However n case of your mails occupied over mail box limitation, it is possible that your mail will be deleted.

 POP before SMTP

If you send mail from the account that Pop before SMTP is checked, default account will not be used. Your SMTP server setting of that account will be used. (Confer "Tips".)

TIPS     What is the problem of Leave mails in server?

Of course it is only the possibility, but server's administrator is able to read your e-mail.
Leave mails in server is not recommended for security reason as long as you don't have special purpose for using this function.

10-4. Switch of using Account

If you have plural accounts, you can switch use of accounts in receiving or sending e-mail. Magellan receives e-mail of checked account(s).
If a certain account is unchecked, Magellan does not check e-mail sent to that account.

The Diamond icon is put on the default account of sending e-mail. You can set or change default account by putting or removing diamond icon.

TIPS
What is the default account?

When plural accounts are set, Magellan always uses one SMTP server with plural POP server.
This SMTP server's account is called the default account in Magellan. It should be the same as your account of InternetConfig or Internet Control panel.

You can change default account of Magellan manually, but in case it is different from the setting of Internet Control Panel, problem will possibly be caused, sometimes receiving or sending is not available at all. If you want to change default setting forever, change the Internet Control panel or InternetConfig first.

It is because most Internet Service Providers prohibit relaying mail, does not permit access from other addresses in order to prevent spamming.

Please ask your Internet Service Provider for more information of e-mail Account setting.

TIPS What does "Pop before SMTP"?

Default : SMTP Server
mail.aaa.com
Default : POP Server
pop.aaa.com

red : SMTP Server
mail.red.com
red : POP Server
pop.red.com

blue : SMTP Server
mail.blue.com
blue : POP Server
pop.blue.com

Following is the explanation of account setting as left table.

Account "blue" is set as Pop before SMTP on.

Even sender use account "red", usually SMTP server of default account (mail.aaa.com) will be used, not "red" (mail.red.com) SMTP server.

This means default Pop account is shared by "default" and "red" account.

However, as account "blue" has been set "Pop before SMTP" option, sender can use mail.blue.com SMTP server. In this setting, user identification is done by accessing Pop server just before sending mail.

Not all of Internet Service Provider can use this function. For details, ask your system administrator or ISP.

10-5. Lock the account

There is a lock icon at the right upper of the Account window.

Click the Lock icon and you can lock the default account.
If the account is locked, Magellan asks the password of the locked account.
You can use this as easy protection.
Unless a person knows the e-mail password, Magellan will not start up. Thus your e-mail is not read by others.

Locking the other account

There is only Default account.
Add a new account first.
 example name is Private.
Click the lock icon at the right upper of the window.
Next, click the lock icon at the right upper of the window, and the Private account is locked.
Uncheck the Default account.
Lock icon will remain on the Private account and the Default setting is not used.

10-6. Export and importing Account

When Account setting window is opened and any account is selected, you
can export the account as a file. Select Export menu from the File menu.

You can also import Account in the same way.

Exported file works as backup of Account setting.
